The Talking, Feeling and Doing Game: The first published therapeutic game, by Richard A. Gardner, M.D., is still one of the most popular tools used in child psychotherapy! The child's responses are generally revealing of those psychological issues that are most important at that time. The engaging game format utilizing token reinforcement enhances the child's interest and elicits spontaneous revelations. The information gained provides diagnostically meaningful insights into the child's psychodynamics, and is of therapeutic value because each response can serve as a catalyst for therapeutic interchanges.  The game is of value in group psychotherapy(with up to 4-5 players), in the treatment of learning-disabled children(because many of the cards are particularly applicable to these children), and with children who can reveal themselves more freely but who may also need a respite from more anxiety-provoking therapeutic endeavors.

Talking, Feeling, & Doing ANGER Card Game: This game contains 99 cards and focuses on the specific problem or concerns of children. Like the original game, the card game is a sure way to help children communicate their feelings and develop insight into their problems.

Talking, Feeling & Doing SHYNESS Card Game: This card game will encourage children to talk about their feelings and will help them develop insight into their problems and concerns related to SHYNESS.

The Talking, Feeling, & Doing GOOD BEHAVIOR Card Game: This card game contains 99 cards and follows the format of the original board game, focusing on specific concerns of children.  Like the original game, the card game is a sure way to help children communicate their feelings and develop insight into their problems.

The Talking, Feeling & Doing DIVORCE Card Game: Help children communicate their feelings and develop insight into dealing with their parents' divorce. The 99 cards in this game can be played by themselves or used with the original board game, Talking, Feeling, and Doing.

The Talking, Feeling & Doing GRIEF Card Game: This card game is designed to help children talk about and work through grief with a teacher, counselor or parent. Through play children will be prompted to reveal the issues on their mind.

The Talking, Feeling, & Doing TEASING Cards: This card game will encourage children to talk about their feelings and will help them develop insight into their problems and concerns related to TEASING.

The Talking, Feeling, & Doing CONFLICT RESOLUTION Card Game: This card game is designed to open up discussion between children and their teacher, parent or counselor on the topic of conflict resolution. Through game play the children will reveal their concerns and experiences and discuss and work through them with a caring adult.

The Talking, Feeling, & Doing Workbook: This workbook addresses 25 topics that reflect the work that counselors encounter in working with children. They are arranged in alphabetical order from Anger to Values, and there are three activities for each topic: Talking, Feeling, & Doing questions, mutual storytelling, and collaborative drawing.
Included is a CD that uses PDF files for easy reprinting of activities.

I've used this with a few kids in my sessions and the discussion prompts really get them talking about things they wouldn't normally bring up. The game structure keeps even the most resistant children engaged without feeling like therapy.

My 8-year-old actually asks to play this, and I love how the question cards get him talking about stuff he'd never bring up on his own. It’s helped us work through some tough feelings during our sessions together.
